What can you see in Tropea?: The heart of the city is piazza Ercole named after "Portus Herculis", mentioned by Pliny and Strabo and considered the origin of Tropea.
At the end of Corso Vittorio Emanuele there is a superb view from a terrace that is forty metres high and dominates the coast with the St.
Leonardo reef to the right and the little island of St.
Maria which is now joined to the coast to the left.
On the Island of St.
Maria you will see the sanctuary of St.
Mary of the Isle, once a Benedictine Monastery.
You could also visit the Cathedral, rebuilt in 1163, which contains numerous works of art.
Via Boiano is the most suggestive of the roads in the old town, along which we can find Villa Braghò, one of the many Patrician residences in Tropea.
Last but not least you can visit the church of St.
Demetrio or St.
Francis d'Assisi (1295) with frescoes that date back to the 14th Century.
