Everything started in 1863, with the advent of the railway in Francavilla al Mare.
It was during those years that the mansion, which now houses the Claila Hotel, was wuilt, for commercial and tourism purposes.
It was located in the marina district, in the centre rich villas built in neoclassic and liberty style.
Francavilla al Mare was thus transformed into a renowned sea-side resort.

During the second World war the whole town was razed to the ground.
Only a few historical buildings were saved, including the Convent of Santa Maria del Gesù, "Cenacolo dell'artista Francesco Paolo Michetti", on the hills, and Palazzo Turchi (the actual Hotel Claila) on the marina.
These two historical buildings were bound by the Ministry of the Architectonic Assets because of their monumental and historical character.
After 50 years of neglect the Macerelli family has acquired Palazzo Turchi.
Believed in its original functions, they have refurbisched the mansion, converting it in exclusive hotel.
