Not so far from the attractive Etruscan walls of Volterra, The Chiosco delle Monache is an ancient Franciscan convent, that was built together with the Church of San Girolamo in 1445 a.C.
by the municipality and then assigned to the Franciscan order.
The recent renovation took back the magic atmosphere of the medieval age and the agreeably furnished rooms, all with private bathroom and shower, offer to our guests a quiet stop in their holidays.
Situated at the entrance of the beautiful Tuscan city of Volterra, the Chiosco delle Monache is really close to the most important cultural cities as Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Siena, San Gimignano and it is also easily reachable from the seaside.
Due to its quiet position, the Chiosco delle Monache is ideal for holidays, study and business trips.
There are 23 rooms situated on two floors.
Perfect also for families and groups of friends, because of the big multiple rooms.
Without structural barriers, this facility is well characterized by the internal marvelous cloister surrounded at the four sides by an open gallery, built respecting the drawing of Michelozzo (sculptor and architect in Donatellos laboratory).
Inside the Chiosco delle Monache there are a bar, a tv room, reading room.
If you want to enjoy the quietness of this facility, you can sit or walk in our beautiful cloister, far from the chaos of the big cities and from the everyday life.
In the summer you can have your breakfast there or as always in the marvelous frescoed entertainment hall, where, by reservation, also lunches, dinners, business meetings, exhibitions and ceremonies can be prepared.
At the back of the Chiosco there is a wide free parking available for all our guests.
For big groups with the bus, there is a private bus parking just at 200 meters far.

The ancient convent Chiosco delle Monache is situated at only 2 Km from the entrance of the city of Volterra, in San Girolamo area.
In the center of five provinces, most of our guests take advantage of this position to move everyday to Pisa (55 Km), Lucca (60 km), Florence (80 km), Massa Marittima (70 km), San Gimignano (30 km), Cecina Mare (40 km).
Art, culture, but also sport, seaside and good kitchen: Tuscany offers all these aspects.

The historical notes take us back to thousand years ago and particularly when the Etruscans lived in this region and when Volterra was one of the most important cities, as you can see in the interesting Etruscan Museum and visiting the famous Porta allArco e and the Necropolis.
The Roma Theater, instead, shows us the splendor of the Roman age, when Volterra was again really important.
The present structure of the city reflects the Medieval age, when Volterra was an important Episcopal center and Comune; Thats because every year at the end of August in Volterra there is the Medieval Festival, Annus Domini 398.
