La Locanda San Lorenzo stands on a hilltop in the most beautiful part of the Tevere Valley.
Surrounded by lush greenery, woods, and rolling hills, it offers breathtaking views of the valley and overlooks Orte, a charming medieval city.
The country house, which is La Locanda San Lorenzo, is the perfect setting for your children, who can play outdoors on the grass, while the family enjoys the relaxed atmosphere of the countryside.
On request, a romantic candlelit dinner is served directly in your room.
Please remember to reserve in advance.
Small pets are welcome and comfortable accommodations are provided for your four-legged friends.
Guests of La Locanda San Lorenzo stay in one of three splendid apartments.
The furniture and colour schemes have been chosen with care.
Each apartment has its own private entrance and is completely independent, with a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, heating, television, and Internet access.
The apartments are spacious and luminous, with the upper floors offering a panoramic view of rare beauty, and the lower floors leading out into the garden.
Next to the swimming pool there is space for a barbecue, for outdoor dining, and plenty of parking space is available.
Because it is located near Orte Scalo, an important railway junction, La Locanda San Lorenzo is an ideal departure point towards various tourist destinations in the regions of Lazio, Tuscany, and Umbria, the “Green Heart of Italy”, famous for its dense green olive oils, and white Orvieto wine.
The house is also only a short drive from the A1 Roma-Firenze highway, exiting the city of Orte, thus providing easy access to places of historical and cultural interest in the region.
Travelling along the scenic routes, you can visit some of the most beautifully kept medieval towns and villages.
Both the highway and the railway are directly linked to Fiumicino International Airport in Rome.
La Locanda San Lorenzo is the perfect retreat for a walk through the woods, a ride on a moutainbike, or archery practice.
Your children can play on the grounds, or join you for a swim in the pool, open during the summer.
To make your stay even more relaxing, why not take advantage of the thermal baths available nearby at the Terme di Orte.
The composition of the waters, which flow from the ground at a temperature of 30o , make it ideal for the treatment of skin ailments.
By railway or by car, Rome is only about 30 minutes away from where we are located.
Equally accessible are historical and cultural centres in Umbria, such as Spoleto, Assisi, Gubbio, Perugia, and Orvieto.
One must not forget, also, a visit to Orte, especially its historical centre, where the citys illustrious past is still evident in its magnificently preserved and impressive art collection.
The city of Orte is centrally located, where the road leading up from the Tevere Valley meets the road from Viterbo, which here goes along the river into Umbria.
OTTAVA DI SANTEGIDIO from August 31 to the 2nd Sunday of September.
This historical event begins on the evening of August 31, with a procession and the blessing of the banners.
In the days following there are feasts in the citys various quarters, including concerts, plays, shows, museums open into late evening, exhibitions, and popular games.
Each of the seven quarters has a tavern operating in a historical locale.
On the 2nd Sunday of September the festivities conclude with the Bando del Palio, the Corteo Grande, the Palio degli Arcieri, and Banner games.

PROCESSION OF CHRIST on Good Friday.
Since medieval times this rite of Christian piety, still practiced today, takes place on Good Friday, at 9:30 PM.
It is the oldest procession of its kind in Italy, originating in 1200.
It is organized by the Confraternite Riunite di Orte, which has been active since the first half of 1100.
Minor changes have not affected its original form.
Three of the most touching moments are the singing of the Miserere in the Piazza della Liberta, the Stabat Mater at the end of the Procession, and finally, the breaking of the bread symbolizing brotherly and sisterly love.

The city of Orte, today, is recognized as an important cultural and historical centre.
Its history goes back to the Etruscans and the Romans.
The name, Orthe, which has always remained, comes from the Latin “Hortanum, Hortas, Horta.
It is believed, however, to have originated from the Greeks.
The historical centre of Orte is oval in shape, with compact housing, adapted to the contours of the surrounding hills.
The outlying houses are built directly on the edges of cliffs, which at various heights, appear to be perforated by antique habitats excavated into the rock.
The Municipal Building faces the Piazza di Santa Maria in the heart of the city where, historically, seven roads from the seven quarters met, almost symbolizing the common consent of all the citizens to live together in harmony.
Here, the centre of civic life meets that of religious life, meaning that the City could only prosper if both commitments , towards God and towards the People, were honoured.
