Furore was founded by a group of Romans who, for the Fjord extraordinary morphological
characteristics, sought refuge here; the town was called "Terra Furoris" for the particular fury of
the waves in its Fjord during stormy days: they crash on to the rocks creating a frighteningly
roar.

Furore spreads from the mountains to the Fjord on the coast: the two regions are
connected by a long stairways, built during the period of the Maritime Republic, which was used
to carry up the goods from the natural port to the higher area of the town.

Some of the most important families have given name to places and roads, such as: le Porpore,
Li Cuomi, Li Candidi, Li Summonti.

The ancient coat of arms of Furore is represented by a gold column on blue shield.

Furore has several ancient Chapels and Churches: in St.
Giacomo Church you can admire some
frescos of the XVI cen.
recently discovered; St.
Elia Church boasts one of the most valuable
triptych wooden panel of the Amalfi Coast painted by Angelo Antonello da Capua in the XV century.
